STATUES

Statues and sculptures

Whether it’s realising licensed family-favourite characters or designing one of our own, we love getting to deliver life-sized sculpts with presence.

CAPABILITIES

Our team create digitally sculpted replicas and likenesses that can be built at any scale. With 3D printing, machining and fibre-glass fabrication we can build statues that are sturdy and safe and finally paint and finish them to embody all the realism needed for maximum impact.

THE REAL MARY KING’S CLOSE – PLAGUE DOCTOR

Conceived to give visitors to the historic Edinburgh landmark the chance to get up close and personal with a plague doctor, the statue was constructed at 1:1 scale, with hand-made costume for accurate textures and finished in resin for durability. A burnished metallic paint finish gave the right heritage aesthetic without the cost, weight and lead time of real bronze.

ROGER MOORE SECRET DOOR KEYPAD

Approached by a private entrepreneur, we were presented with the opportunity to design and fabricate a one-off, bespoke secret door access keypad, capable of opening a hidden bookshelf entrance.

Combining our design, model making, sculpting and electronics teams, the project was a combined effort. With an initial prototype made to prove the concept in principle, the final solution was to produce a large 3D printed body, with the electronics housed inside the torso of the bust. Authentic sound effects from the James Bond franchise were sourced and able to be played when certain keys were pressed in the correct order.

The resulting functional model provided an excellent talking piece and a unique statement gadget, built to last.

FUTURE GENERATIONS - GORILLA STATUES

Looking for something striking for their new halls of residence builds, Future Generation came to Designworks to design a range of bespoke giant gorilla sculptures. Coined ‘Big Jim’ he was to stand or hang in foyers and common spaces to impress, amuse and likely intimidate the students.

MADAME TUSSAUDS - SPIDER-MAN STATUES

Contacted by the world renowned, Madame Tussauds, our team were tasked with recreating ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ in all his glory. What was required was a life-sized, detailed replica of the famous superhero for their London exhibition.

Our approach to this task was to create a ‘master’ copy 3D printed figure from our digital sculpt. Once the master was produced we then created moulds from which we could create further fibreglass copies.

The outcome of the mouldings produced a life like replica of the original vision which was then hand painted and finished before our team hand delivered and installed the statue at the famous London venue.
