Case study - Animal sculpting

Creature feature!

Alongside familiar human characters our sculpting team love creating animals, both real and imagined. We took a look back at the development of some of our past projects to showcase our character development process.

Similar to sculpting humans – lots of images are on hand to use as reference for getting the details just right - whether it’s the musculature of a racehorse’s leg, or the tiny crypts of a hand-painted iris.

These anatomy features also define how the parts will assemble in construction, and if the character is posable, how it will articulate.

What many animals have that us humans (usually) don’t is scales and feathers. These tiny features not only add vital texture and bring a sense of realism, but accumulate to add mass and will change the overall profile.

We’ve sculpted many scaly and feathery creatures for a host of TV show merchandise.

Not all dragons are quite as fearsome though... We’ve made dragons, dogs and even an alien with personality carefully crafted in, both cheerful and otherwise.

If you have a character you’d like to see brought to life, whether furry or frightening, sweet or scary; get in touch with our team here…
